Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is the highest governing body of the University and is charged with the overall policy direction and financing of the University. The Board is comprised of seasoned individuals who are passionate about education and grooming the next generation of leaders. With their wealth of knowledge and experience, they provide oversight for the governance of the University through strategic decision-making.

Jim Ovia, CFR.

Founder

Jim Ovia founded Zenith Bank Plc, one of Africa’s largest banks with significant operations in Nigeria, West Africa, London, and Dubai.

Kay Ovia, MBA

Trustee

Mrs. Kay Ovia is the Chairman of Cyberspace Limited, a leading software engineering company in Lagos. She also serves as the MD/CEO of Quantum Markets Limited and holds positions on the boards of multiple organizations, highlighting her significant leadership roles in the business and technology sectors.

Prof. Chukuka S. Enwemeka

Trustee

Professor Chukuka S. Enwemeka is a distinguished academic with extensive experience in higher education administration and a strong background in physical therapy and rehabilitation sciences.

Prince Professor L. F. O. Obika

Trustee

Prince Professor L. F. O. Obika was born into royalty in Nigeria and pursued a distinguished academic career in physiology. After completing his secondary education, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology from the University of Ibadan and subsequently embarked on a research fellowship at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.

Governing Council

The Board of Trustees is currently establishing JHU’s Governing Council, the body charged with the general management of the affairs of the University, in particular the control of University property and expenditures. The Council will be comprised of the following:

•        Pro-Chancellor, Chair

•        Vice-Chancellor 

•        Deputy Vice-Chancellors

•        Senate Representatives (4)

•        Congregation Representatives (2)

•        Convocation Representatives (2)

•        Lekki/Lagos Community Representative (1)

•        Four Additional Advisors appointed by the Board of Trustees

•        Representative from the Lagos State Ministry of Education

•        Representative from the National University Commission

•        The University Registrar, Secretary

Senate

The Senate of James Hope University has the general function to organise and control teaching—as well as the admission and discipline of students—and to promote research. Chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, the Senate is comprised of all professors as well as all academic leaders of the University, including the Librarian, the deans of faculties, directors of centres and institutes, and heads of departments.

Principal Officers

JHU is managed by the senior leadership team headed by the Vice-Chancellor/President. They are responsible for the University’s welfare and the management of its financial, academic and non-academic affairs.

Paul Vita, Ph.D.

Vice-Chancellor

Dr. Paul Vita serves as the inaugural Vice-Chancellor/President of James Hope University, overseeing leadership, academic and non-academic programs, infrastructure, admissions, and student services, among other responsibilities.

Oluyele Akinkugbe, Ph.D.

Dean

Professor Oluyele Akinwalie Akinkugbe is a seasoned academic with 37 years of experience returning to Lagos from Mount Saint Vincent University in Canada to become the founding Dean of the James Hope University School of Business.

Achugamonu Bede Uzoma, Ph.D.

Registrar

Achugamonu Bede Uzoma (PhD, FCA, MCSI, ACIB) is currently the Registrar of James Hope University. He obtained his PhD in Finance at Covenant University where he emerged as the best PhD Student in the Banking & Finance Department in 2021.
