James Hope University Scholarship

James Hope University is providing a fee waiver scholarship to encourage and assist high-achieving Nigerian applicants to pursue a postgraduate degree programme at the University. Please take a moment to read the conditions before completing the scholarship application and acceptance form.

Scholarship Conditions

1 Governed by The University Policy on; Establishment and Award of Scholarships and the conditions that follow.
2 Purpose To encourage and assist high-achieving Nigerian candidates to pursue a postgraduate programme at the University.
3 Duration of scholarship The duration of the scholarship is for the duration of the recipient’s course, up to a maximum of three academic years.
4 Concurrent scholarships The scholarship may be held concurrently with any other scholarship or award, provided that this has been approved by the selection committee and is permitted by the conditions of the concurrent scholarship or award.
5 Eligibility requirements

To be eligible to be considered for the scholarship, a candidate must—

  1. Be a student resident in Nigeria;
  2. Have applied for a place and admitted in the postgraduate programme at the University;
  3. Have a minimum of 3.5/5.0 CGPA for a 5/7-point grade system. 
  4. Have submitted an essay or personal statement explaining his/her academic and career goals, achievements, and why he/she deserves the scholarship;
6 Eligibility to take up
  1. The scholarship must be taken up in the academic year for which it is awarded.
  2. To be eligible to take up the scholarship, an awardee must have been offered and accepted admission in James Hope University.
  3. The scholarship cannot be transferred to another academic year if not taken up in the year awarded.
  4. Payment of acceptance fee is not contingent on award of Scholarship.
7 Selection criterion/criteria Academic achievement, personal statement, and letters of recommendation from lecturers, employers, or other relevant individuals may be required.
8 Selection process The Admission and Scholarship Committee will select eligible students for the award of scholarship subject to Management and Board of Trustees approvals.
9 Method of payment The scholarship is provided as a fee waiver of the recipient’s eligible tuition fees after payment of acceptance fee.
10 Criteria for continuation The recipient must— Remain enrolled in James Hope University academic programme at the University; and make satisfactory progress in accordance with the rules and regulations for the programme for which the scholarship is awarded.
11 Withdrawal of Scholarship

The scholarship may be withdrawn by James Hope University if the recipient is liable under any of the following circumstances –

  • Failure to maintain a specified GPA or academic standing.
  • Dropping below full-time enrollment status without prior approval.
  • Engaging in academic dishonesty or misconduct.
  • Violating university codes of conduct or policies.
  • Withdrawing from the university or taking a leave of absence. 
  • Conviction of a crime.
  • Failure to submit required documentation or information within specified deadlines.
  • Failure to adhere to any specific terms or conditions outlined in the scholarship policy.
  • Misrepresentation of information during admission/scholarship application process
12 Application procedure Eligible applicants must complete and submit the scholarship application form.
13 Other conditions
  1. The offer of the scholarship must be accepted by the date specified in the letter of offer.
  2. The scholarship offer may be withdrawn if it is not accepted within the specified time frame.
14 Publications Any thesis, dissertation or other publication resulting from research undertaken by the recipient while in receipt of the James Hope University Scholarship must acknowledge the support of the scholarship of James Hope University by-law.
15 Intellectual property Governed by the University Policy on: Intellectual Property.
