Dr Ikpenmosa (Ike) Uhumuavbi

Dr Ikpenmosa (Ike) Uhumuavbi is an Associate Professor of Emerging Technologies Law and Governance in the School of Law at the University of Greater Manchester, United Kingdom. His academic and professional work sits at the intersection of emerging technologies, finance, sustainability, law, governance, regulation and ethics, with particular interest in artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, Web3, financial crime, cybercrime and AI-enabled crime.

He holds a PhD in Investment Securities and Fintech from the University of Bolton, an LLM in Rule of Law and Democratic Governance from Ohio Northern University, an MBA from the University of Bolton, an LLM in Corporate and Securities Law from Queen Mary College, University of London, and an LLB in Law. He is also a qualified Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and holds professional teaching qualifications, including a PGCE and postgraduate certification in legal education.

Dr Uhumuavbi is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants, and a member of professional bodies spanning law, enterprise and socio-legal studies. His continuing professional development includes certificates in Sustainable Development and the Law through Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge, as well as accredited training in project management, business analysis, mediation and conciliation.

At the University of Greater Manchester, he has served as a senior academic in Law, Postgraduate Research and Knowledge Exchange Coordinator, and Postgraduate Programme Leader. His work includes postgraduate supervision, curriculum development, research leadership and knowledge exchange. Internationally, he is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Vellore Institute of Technology School of Law in Chennai, India, and a Senior Research Fellow with the Central Asian Legal Research Fellowship at Tashkent State University of Law, Uzbekistan.

His research addresses contemporary questions arising from technological change and global governance. His recent scholarly outputs include work on artificial intelligence regulation and ethics, radicalisation and evidentiary thresholds, legal pluralism in Africa, sustainability metrics, anti-money laundering standards, corporate social responsibility, machine learning and tax governance. His publication portfolio includes peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters with publishers and journals such as Springer, Laws, Critical Studies on Terrorism and the African Journal of Legal Studies.

Dr Uhumuavbi also contributes to academic publishing and international engagement. He is an Associate Editor with Springer Nature's Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, a member of the editorial team for Laws, and an adviser to the editorial board of Integral University Journal. He has also served as a facilitator in the World Trade Organisation partnership with the University of Bolton.
