Rosemary Adishetu Danesi PhD

Rosemary Danesi is a Professor of Human Resources & Performance Management, at James Hope University. Before now, she was at the University of Lagos, where she started as an Assistant Lecturer and rose through the ranks to the Professorial cadre in 2020. She holds a BSc. Sociology degree, an MSc in Industrial Relations & Personnel Management, an LLB, LLM (All from the University of Lagos), BL from the Nigerian Law School in 2002, and a PhD in Law from the University of Essex, United Kingdom.

She served at various levels at the University of Lagos during her 22 years stay. She served as the MBA School Coordinator from 2021 – 2023. She served in various committees of the University some of which are, Committee to Develop Criteria/Guidelines for Issuance of Commendation Letters and Award of Gold Medals for Deserving Members of Staff, Review of MBA Curriculum Committee of the Faculty of Business Administration, University of Lagos Servicom Committee, Chairperson: Ombudsman Committee Faculty of Business Administration, Endowment Committee of the Faculty of Business Administration, Departmental Journal Editorial Committee, Departmental Alumni Affairs Committee, Finance Committee, University of Lagos Counseling Management Committee, Academic Misconduct Panel, Welfare Committee of Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Lagos, Beautification and Course Adviser.

Rosemary is a recipient of research grants, some of which are Fulbright Fellowship Grant from the United States Government, to conduct research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2005/2006 academic session. She is also a recipient of the University of Lagos Central Research Committee Research Grant in 2016. Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) International Conference Travel Grant, 2015. British Academy Writing Workshop for Sub-Saharan Africa Grant: Early Career Researchers, September 2019. She was nominated for the prestigious International Labour and Employment Relations Association (ILERA) Luis Aparicio Prize in 2015 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Her areas of specialization are human resource management, employment relations, and labour/employment law, and she has articles published in both national and international journals and books, in her areas of specialization. She has taught and supervised students at undergraduate and graduate levels including PhD supervision. She is an external examiner to North West University, South Africa since 2022. She was an Examiner on Human Capital, for the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) 2014 – 2015.

 

Before embarking on the journey into academia, Rosemary had a stint in the private sector. She worked in Gemini Pharmaceuticals Nigeria Ltd. Lagos, where she held various roles, from Head, Commercials to Industrial Relations Manager and Head of Human Resources, from 1995 to 1999. She has done some consultancy work for corporate organizations, employers, and workers.

Rosemary Danesi is a member of the Labour Law Research Network (LLRN) Steering Committee from 2021 till date, representing Africa. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management Nigeria (CIPMN), a fellow of the Mentoring and Career Development Institute of Nigeria (MCDI), Member of Nigeria Bar Association (NMA), member of Federation of Women Lawyers FIDA), member International Labour and Employment Relations Association (ILERA), member International Society for Labour and Social Security Law (ISLSSL). Member African Labor Law Society (ALLS), Member Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM), Member Employment and Labor Law Association of Nigeria (ELLAN), and, Member Nigerian Industrial & Employment Relations Association (NIERA).
